DWP commits to major IT changes

One-size-fits-all approach doesn't help jobseekers

was made redundant in January 2009 after working in book publishing for 12 years. The company's owners had ordered a package of cost cuts to offset what was expected to be a grim year ahead. Knowing it was likely to take months to find another job in publishing, I signed on to employment agencies as soon as I could. Dealing with A4e made me feel like Alice in Wonderland. Their glossy full-colour brochure promises positive thinking and cool break-out spaces; in reality, it is a chaotic, greyish office in Archway where no one seems to have a clue what's going on.
