One of the three key policy decisions in the UK Government's 'e-GIF' program is identified as the adoption of XML as the primary standard for data integration and presentation on all public sector systems.
CogniSoft were quick to adopt and implement this in 2001 after the introduction of the NCCIS and the requirement for Connexions services in England to submit their core client tracking data to the DCSF via XML. CogniSoft were instrumental in the schema design and still contribute to its ongoing development.
More recently there has been a renewed focus on the need to share data, particularly in systems that surround young people following tragic cases such as Victoria Climbie and Baby P, along with the recommendations that came out of the Laming Report.
There is currently a clear need in Local Governement for a centralised view of the work that has been done with each young person, however as there is little desire to replace the many dedicated practitioner focussed systems in Local Government with a single 'megalith' system, indeed this isn't and may never be a realistic proposition. Clearly then each of these systems needs to share data in order to ensure no further vulnerable young people fall 'under the radar' and fail to receive the support they need.
As CogniSoft maintain highly specialised and practitioner focussed systems, and have long standing and extensive XML data transfer experience, we are clearly well placed to offer our customers and Authorities solutions that meet these dual objectives.
Private and Third Sectors
XML technology figures prominently in the data sharing policies of most progressive organisations and is fundamental to Microsoft’s .Net strategy. Transferring data via XML is the quickest and most efficient way to transfer data between two systems and has the added advantage that it can operate on a real-time basis.
CogniSoft are experts in XML data transfer and have worked on several large scale data exchange projects, for example a city-wide project with Glasgow Works:

- One of the key factors in Glasgow Works' decision to chose the CogniSoft system was our ability to link-up all of the regional provider's various case level systems (those with the capability to transfer their data via XML), into the Connect system.
